Sport provides a forum to learn skills such as discipline, confidence and leadership and it teaches core principles as tolerance, cooperation and respect. Sport teaches the value of effort and how to manage victory, as well as defeat.They teach life skills.
Like in most societies sports plays a important role in Bhutanese society too. Bhutanese traditional sports help to preserve the Bhutanese culture which is very important for a small society. Bhutanese people enjoy sports both as participants and spectators. Though sports may still not be a career option, with education and understanding the values of sports, more and more people are taking up sports. It is having a gradual impact on the everyday lives of people. Sport events bring people together and encourage patriotism, team work and national spirit. Efforts are being made by the Government to improve the standard of sports both at the school level as well as the national level. More and more people of all ages are now taking up some form of physical activity which would directly have a positive impact on their lives which would also result in higher productivity and contribute to gross national happiness.
